Ask Dr. Scher: “I’m 46 – am I too old for braces?”

Great question, and absolutely not! At Scher Orthodontics, nobody is “too old” for braces! In fact, we read a fascinating statistic recently: adults getting braces has actually jumped 24 percent since 1996! Also, one of every five patients in orthodontic treatment nowadays is over the age of 21. Of course, braces help make your teeth stay strong, healthy and become perfectly-aligned. But we’d like you to know orthodontic treatment with Dr. Scher can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile.

In fact, we are proud to offer an adult-friendly option for straightening teeth called Invisalign, which uses a series of invisible, removable and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you're wearing. So, you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Dr. Scher is a Certified Invisalign Premier Provider.

If you’ve been thinking about getting that perfect smile, we would love to have you visit for a consultation at our Westport, Connecticut office. Please give us a call at 203-227-6061 to set one up and have a wonderful rest of the week!

"Hey, Dr. Scher! How, exactly, does Invisalign work?" [Video]

Have you ever thought about Invisalign treatment and how it manages to straighten teeth without using braces at all? The Invisalign system is a state-of-the-art system of clear, removable aligners that we at Scher Orthodontics proudly offer at our convenient Westport location. Dr. Steven Scher offers Invisalign for teens and adults, and has some resources on our website for you to check out about Invisalign. You may also give our office a call at 203-227-6061 to learn if this revolutionary new treatment option is right for you!

How does Invisalign work? Well, you'll wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move - little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Scher has prescribed. You'll visit Dr. Scher about once every 4-8 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!!
