"Hey, Dr. Scher! How, exactly, does Invisalign work?" [Video]

Have you ever thought about Invisalign treatment and how it manages to straighten teeth without using braces at all? The Invisalign system is a state-of-the-art system of clear, removable aligners that we at Scher Orthodontics proudly offer at our convenient Westport location. Dr. Steven Scher offers Invisalign for teens and adults, and has some resources on our website for you to check out about Invisalign. You may also give our office a call at 203-227-6061 to learn if this revolutionary new treatment option is right for you!

How does Invisalign work? Well, you'll wear each set of aligners for about 2 weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move - little by little, week by week - until they have straightened to the final position Dr. Scher has prescribed. You'll visit Dr. Scher about once every 4-8 weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned. Total treatment time averages 9-15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment is between 18 and 30, but both will vary from case to case.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone!!

What's on your reading list this summer?

Last week, you may remember, Dr. Steven Scher and team asked you, our fantastic patients, about your summer plans.

With summer only weeks away, some of us at Scher Orthodontics have been thinking more and more about the importance of reading for today's teens. We know it’s more convenient for teenagers to go play baseball, hang with friends or kick back and watch TV, but our staff will tell you that reading during the summer is a vital step in being prepared for classes in the fall and maintaining your skill level.

Out of ideas for great summer reads? Ask us for suggestions, and our staff would be happy to provide a few titles. You may also ask a local librarian here in Westport for some ideas or check out these summer reading lists that we came across this week from Barnes & Noble.

Happy reading everyone and have a TERRIFIC weekend!

Tell Scher Orthodontics about your summer plans!

As the school year comes to a close for many of our patients at Scher Orthodontics, the days get longer and the weather begins to heat up, there’s no better way to beat the heat than jumping into a pool or cooling off under the shade with a cold drink.

That brings us to you, our wonderful patients:

What are your summer plans? Do you have any interesting plans for a summer vacation? Our staff (as well as Dr. Scher) would be interested in how you are all spending your summer vacations. If you’re headed to an exotic destination, awesome! If you're going camping, we'd like to hear about it! Going to a New York for a ballgame? Tell us!

Please feel free to share your summer plans and adventures with Dr. Scher and staff on our Facebook page as the summer rolls along!

Dr. Scher and team, supporting National Smile Month

According to our friends at the American Dental Association, a person's smile outranks their eyes, hair and body as the most important physical feature, which is why it's important for our team at Scher Orthodontics to support National Smile Month this June.

Below are a few simple steps you can take to improve your oral health so that you may celebrate National Smile Month for many, many years to come!

* Brush at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste. Here's a helpful video showing you how to brush with your braces on.
* Floss every day to clean between your teeth.
* Reduce your intake of sugary foods and drinks during your orthodontic treatment with Dr. Scher.
* Visit your dentist regularly (usually every six months apart).

If you have questions about any of these tips, we encourage you to give us a call at 203-227-6061!
